Procon Consulting is honored to receive the CMAA National Capital Chapter‘s Project Achievement Award for 2023 Building of the Year in the $150M+ category for the new Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) Metro Office Headquarters in Alexandria, VA. Procon served as the on-site Construction Manager and Quality Assurance Manager for the project’s developer, Jair Lynch Real Estate Partners, to ensure this modern, innovative, and sustainable 425,000 SF building was delivered on time and on budget. The project consisted of constructing a new base, building core and shell, and tenant fit-out. The building is designed to meet LEED Gold, and comprises 10 floors of offices, collaborative spaces, and data/operations centers with highly specialized equipment for monitoring metro safety.
Other members of the Project Team included Gensler (Architect), Bowman Consulting (Civil Engineer), Setty Associates (MEP Engineer), Hensel Phelps (General Contractor), and Jacobs serving as WMATA’s Construction Manager.
“The structure of the Development Team for this project was unique, with the Owner (WMATA) and the Developer (Jair Lynch Real Estate Partners) each having on-site CM representatives with different responsibilities,” says Procon Co-Founder and Executive Vice President, Mark Ilich. “The Procon Team played a critical role in partnering with stakeholders to resolve numerous complications that arose during this complex project and deliver a building with state-of-the-art work spaces and operations centers that uphold Metro’s commitment to functionality and safety.”
The WMATA Metro Office building has also received recognition from Urban Land Institute (ULI) Washington for Excellence in Office Development and the FreelandBuck art installation in the building lobby, Tunnel Vision, has received attention from multiple design outlets and local media, including Washingtonian Magazine.
